In 2006, FedEx placed what is still the largest 777F order to date, soon after canceling their A380F order due to the Airbus program’s chronic delays. Following FedEx’s tradition of naming each of their planes after the child of a FedEx employee, the new 777, registered N850FD, has been dubbed “Saad.” Saad is the only son of Kashif Zia.

Fedex

Major world markets are suddenly closer — now that FedEx Express flies direct via a fleet of Boeing 777 Freighters. The air freighter’s extra-long flight range means greater access to your global trade partners, reducing transit times by as much as a full day. By eliminating refueling stops, we’ve extended cutoff times by two hours in select markets. Fewer stops and less congestion at transfer hubs streamline your supply chain.
FedEx has already deployed more 777s than any other U.S.-based express cargo carrier, increasing your speed of delivery to key destinations across the globe. One more reason to go places with FedEx.
See how our 777 fleet can help you increase your speed to market.

Performance and Efficiency

As part of an ongoing upgrade of the FedEx Express fleet, the new aircraft offers a premium blend of performance and efficiency. In service since February 2009, the Boeing 777 is the largest and longest-range twin-engine freighter. It has a payload capacity of 112 tons (102 metric tons). Its flight range of 4,900 miles (9,070 kilometers), with a full payload, is nearly 900 nautical miles more than the MD-11.
The 777 also represents the next step in FedEx efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. The aircraft supports the company’s commitment to the environment in three ways:

  • 24 percent better fuel economy per pound of revenue payload than the 747-400BCF, thanks to an advanced wing design, more efficient engines and a lighter structure.
  • 18 percent fewer emissions than the MD-11, largely because of the improved fuel efficiency.
  • QC2 noise standards, with advanced noise reduction on landings and takeoffs for maximum accessibility to noise-sensitive airports.

Boeing handed FedEx the keys to a shiny new 777 Freighter today, the box hauler’s first of 15 on order. In 2006, FedEx placed what is still the largest 777F order to date, soon after canceling their A380F order due to the Airbus program’s chronic delays.

Following FedEx’s tradition of naming each of their planes after the child of a FedEx employee, the new 777, registered N850FD, has been dubbed “Saad.” Saad is the only son of Kashif Zia, an auditor at FedEx’s Newark hub.

According to Boeing, the new twin jets offer significant range and payload advantages over the MD-11s they will eventually supplant from the FedEx fleet:

In the FedEx Express operation, the 777 Freighter can fly 5,800 nautical miles (6,675 statute miles, 10,740 km), an increase of 2,100 nautical miles (2,410 statute miles, 3,890 km) versus the airline’s MD-11 Freighter fleet. The FedEx 777 Freighter has a revenue payload capacity of 215,000 pounds (97.5 metric tons), a 37,000-pound (16.7-metric-ton) increase over the MD-11 Freighter.

Unfortunately for New York spotters, the new Boeings will be reserved for long-haul flights linking key Asian manufacturing centers to FedEx’s Memphis hub. And Anchorage is out of luck, too: Unlike the MD-11s, the 777F’s increased range means no Alaskan fuel stops before and after their long hops across the Pacific.
